Pair of Louis XV style wingback chairs, circa 1950.

There is great pleasure to be had from a comfortable chair.  It is no mistake this pair of French Louis XV style chairs happen to be very comfortable.  These particular chairs are known as wingback or wing chairs.  The side wings gracefully merge into the arms creating a “pocket”.  The design is meant to protect the sitter from drafts or capture the heat given off from a cheery hearth.  Please do not form the impression this pair of chairs would only be appropriate near a fireplace.  Wingback chairs are appropriate in any room where comfortable seating is desired.  As if comfort isn’t enough, the sturdy hand carved wood frames were designed with graceful lines and feature a classic “sea shell” motif.  The four cabriole legs are also hand carved continuing with the sea shell motif.
