New Haven Clock Co. banjo style wall clock.

Here is an American classic, the banjo clock.  Originally designed by Simon Willard and patented in 1802; the banjo clock is one of the most distinctive clock case styles.  Due to the styles popularity, it was not long before most American clock company were selling their own version of this design.  This particular rendition was manufactured by the New Haven Clock Company and displays most of the traits of the original Willard clock.  The case is of mahogany and reverse painted glass.  The glass tablet in the lower door is a depiction of Mt. Vernon.  The painted dial is still in wonderful condition and signed New Haven.  The 8 day spring powered movement chimes the hour on the hour and once on the half hour.
