19th Century French Marble Top Painted Antique Table
One of our favorite pieces in the Beauchamp Antiques shop, this side table has a number of unique elements. The base is finished in polychrome with Parcel-gilt, and features many carved details. The shapely lower stretcher is further accentuated by a dental molding. The typical Louis XVI style fluted legs are topped by reed leaves, with a classic floral carved medallion sitting above. Finally, the banding underneath the marble top is carved in a faux scroll style. And, if those details were not enough, the piece is topped by an exquisite cut of marble, quite unique to our shop. The French valued these exotic cuts of mineral deposit marble for their incredible range of color and veining. This table is the perfect example of how bringing antiques in a more modern design scheme can add a conversation piece to your home. It has wow factor from every angle, and could easily serve as an accent table for a sofa or chair vignette, or as a center table in a small foyer or landing area.
