Fabulous buffet du corps from the Flemish region of Belgium.

This is a fabulous buffet du corps from Ghent (pronounced gent) which is a city located in the Flemish region of Belgium.  This absolutely beautiful and statuesque hand carved oak buffet du corps would have been made between the end of the 18th and early 19th century.  The quality and elegance of the construction makes this an important piece which would have been in a manor house.  The top section of the cabinet has two large doors with beautifully carved  panels and curved tops which fit into the arched top.  Turning the key in the top right door with its hand wrought lock will allow access to the four shelves and two small drawers.  The bottom section of this buffet du corps also has two beautifully carved doors which are secured with a lock and key.  Another feature of this piece is the pullout slide located just beneath the top doors, which would have been used for serving.  Truly, a magnificent piece of furniture that would be the focal point of any room.
