Custom made French drawleaf Antique Farmhouse Table in cherry.
This Louis XV rustic style antique farmhouse table was custom made in England for Beauchamp Antiques out of reclaimed cherry. It was crafted with hand-hewn planks in the 18th century style, with mortis and tenon wood peg construction. The table features self-storing drawleaves, which can quickly expand the table 4ft. Drawleaves are made to slide out from under the table when needed, and then settle back under when not in use. The top is self-leveling, allowing for only one leaf to be used at time. When both leaves are out the table can seat 12 comfortably.
The casual feel of Country French farmhouse tables makes these pieces popular today. People like the size of a more intimate-scaled table on a daily basis, but also like the ability to easily expand it to accommodate larger crowds. Finding an antique table that is this user-friendly for today’s daily use is a challenge. The scale and function we expect was rare in 18th century, and when we found one, it was very expensive. To fit the needs of our clients at an affordable price point, we partnered with a craftsman in England to make these tables for us. Due to the 18th century cabinet-making techniques used in their construction, we believe these high-quality, custom-made pieces will be the antiques of the future.
