Child Size Antique Secretary
Circa 1900, this rare 18th century style Dutch child sized secretary is quite the find. The base wood is veneered with a mixture of domestic and exotic wood species: tulipwood, highly figured walnut, oak and satinwood. The bulbous bottom and shaped upper shelving are typical of Dutch style cabinetry. A shell medallion has been inlaid on the lid, which when opened, is supported by pullouts. The fitted interior features drawers and nooks for storage. Bronze hardware includes handles and escutcheons. To top the piece, the craftsman created a decorative carved cornice with a scrolled broken arch pediment. The unique scale of this secretary lends itself to being displayed in today’s home in a raised niche, or used to store a jewelry collection.
